Employers are increasingly focusing on their employees' happiness because research suggests that companies with happier employees are more successful on average than those with unhappy employees. Happy employees are often healthier, more productive, and seem to have better workplace relationships.

So, who do you think is responsible for employees' happiness at work? Is it the employer, a colleague, or a consumer? What are the determinants of happiness at the workplace?

In this podcast, we discuss happiness in the workplace. Happiness differs from organization to organization and team to team. According to Tim Sharp, employees have showcase greater efficacy and efficiency when they can design their own work. They simply have to have their own sense of control and bring their strengths to work.

Too many employers focus on skills, which is important, but another important aspect is to bring their employees' psychological strengths to work and use them as much as possible, increasing productivity and happiness.

Show Notes

(01:09) Tim, you have set up The Happiness Institute and you are its CHO, infact you are known as Australia's very own 'Dr. Happy.' What inspired you to work in the area of happiness?

(04:07) Your main area of interest has been enhancing happiness at work. Why do you think happiness at work is important?

(06:08) Happiness at work is more than just a combination of smart investments and good returns. What does a happy workplace look like?

(08:14) Nowadays most companies invest in happiness coaches, team-building activities, games, funsultants, and Chief Happiness Officers.

These practices and titles may appear lighthearted, but they are taken quite seriously by businesses. On the other hand, most employees believe that companies utilize happiness to extract superior efficiency from their workers, not because they want them to be happy.

How can officers or managers set a balance in this aspect so that their efforts don’t seem adulterated?

(11:38) What are some of the ways to boost happiness at work and increase productivity at the same time?

(16:49) One of the most beneficial things we can do for our mental health is to take time for ourselves. Why this "me time" is so vital, and why we should never feel guilty for having it during work pressure?

(19:45) Mornings can be a nightmare for working moms, especially when they work from home. While sticking to her schedule like making breakfast, doing other household work, getting the child ready for school, and not getting late to work herself, most mothers tend to skip breakfast.

I read an article where you mentioned the importance of breakfast. Let’s end this podcast with some foody thoughts and we would love to hear your suggestions on the same.
