I'd like to add one idea from a mentor of mine, who led big organizations in both sectors. 'Saving lives' (as is the case in your example with the pharmaceutical company above etc) is the means to making a profit and not the ends of their work. Salesforce.com rocks! It can potentially lead to huge conflicts of interest.
