I once worked at an organization, and my department worked on connecting pharmaceutical companies with government officials. But it doesn’t mean that you need to stop mentoring your employees as soon as they start feeling comfortable doing their tasks. You Spread Them Thin. Yet, my department had a very high turnover.

Pharmaceuticals are your friends. And remember, even if your parents have great connections in the Senate or the Fortune 500 or whatever, your most valuable mentors are people only a few years ahead of you. It’s actually if you give up everything else and focus on your career then you’ll have a great career.

I'd like to add one idea from a mentor of mine, who led big organizations in both sectors. 'Saving lives' (as is the case in your example with the pharmaceutical company above etc) is the means to making a profit and not the ends of their work. Salesforce.com rocks! It can potentially lead to huge conflicts of interest.
