Mentoring, at it’s best, is a magical elixir which shaves years off your learning curve through mistakes unmade. Thank God, I’ve experienced the transformational spirit of amazing mentors. Please God, let my mentoring have made a difference for others. Great mentors are rarely monogamous. This is our future.
I have developed and implemented plenty of mentoring programs over the years. I have done the match-making and developed and led the workshops. The truth is, after 2 decades of living and leading in organizations, my feeling is, these programs typically don’t work.
Who should I seek out as a mentor? I was talking with LGL subscriber, David Oddis (below) after giving a W inning Well workshop for his organization. He shared a game changing question his mentor asked when he was contemplating taking on a new role. His mentor simply asked, “is this move part of your story?”
