I wonder, is there really one blanket solution for women in this situation? I started in London in the slump of the eighties but still managed fine with very little money or opportunity. I certainly am a fan of working from home and believe that you have a set boundaries and expectations so that you are productive and focused on getting things accomplished to be successful.
