Now I schedule time to find connections, be creative, listen and daydream during each day, even if it is only for 15 minutes. The whole "shiny object syndrome" that you describe seems to be a common character trait of creative people.

The always-interesting Clive Thompson reported her findings in Wired magazine: First, only 38 percent of the writing young people do takes place in the classroom. These kids need to turn off the Social Networks and read a book because school won't help them. To be a good writer, you need to be a good reader, in my opinion.

They might consider some of their actions "interesting", but the underlying motivation is competition. I'm actually happiest when I'm being challenged (that is, mentally and creatively stimulated–not being put under distress). Competitive people tend to be insecure and unhappy at the core.
