It's really dangerous to think there are vastly different motivators in the non-profit world. You'll notice that in the for-profit world, in the new workplace, money is not a key motivator. Caring for each other has more to do about the people who we report to and manage than the goals of the organization.

I have a roof over my head, food in my tummy (and my family's), and money in the bank. I'm not unemployed but my management job has been cut to half time. Your 4th point about December and January being strong hiring months is absolutely correct and should serve as renewed motivation when a job seeker begins to lose steam.
