It may make you feel good to give someone compliments, or vindicated to tell them what they did wrong, but constructive criticism often requires pulling yourself out of the situation and engaging compassionately in finding solutions. I'm starting to see posts that seem to suggest that motivation should be all stick, no carrot.

I guess there’s no real solution besides maybe trying to understand other people’s priorities. It is quite difficult to motivate me on a Sunday but you have me thinking hard and reading like crazy. That’s why crying is so important, it’s a visual signal of just how much the other person wants to get their way. Men should cry more.

Because for some reason, a feasible solution is usually included with the "why," a bit like getting that second ShamWow for free. You are trying to motivate people to do the impossible and some "genius" is pulling the carpet out from under you. I think what "people" want is solutions.
